VENUE & TIME: YCK Stadium, Yio Chu Kang, Saturday March 17, 18.30.
HEAD TO HEAD (3 years): Played 3 – NTU 0, NUS 2, Draw 1.
LAST TIME: Feb, 2006 (NUS Field, Final) – NUS 15-7 NTU
NTU Blog Editors are delighted to have Mr. Rong Jing Xiang, the current Singapore Rugby Captain, to talk about the upcoming clash between NTU and NUS.
Editor: "Its great to have you Rongo. What are your views on the upcoming Intervasity Cup finals between NTU and NUS?"
Rongo: "it will be close on the weekend, due to the traditional rivalry between the 2 schools, i think both team will come out with all guns blazing. Obviously the team who is more hungry will come out as winners. (in the background, SMU's Dezzo: "hooooowwww fucking diplomatic!") "
Editors: "Ermmmm... ok. NUS has been champions for the past 2 years. In your most honest opinion.... who do you think will come out on top this saturday?"
Rongo: "Although NUS has been the champions for 2 years, but in the finals...form books are normally thrown out of the window. And in my opinion, i hope that NTU can wrestle the title away from NUS for a host of reasons...firstly, since my brother is almost like part of NTU, it is only natural that i support them and secondly, the most obvious reason is that NTU rugby has a blog that will soon surpass that of xiaxue???(Who the f**k is xiaxue) I'm NTU blog biggest fan!"
Editors: "Thanks for your support Rongo. Lets take a look at some key head-to-heads. How do you think Mark 'sausage boy' Koh would fare against Rebel Rong should he come off the bench?"
Rongo: "May Rongy have mercy on this poor kid. I dont think its even a match up...hahaha i have absolute faith in my bro to perform to the best of his abilities. And i have seen Sausage Koh play his rugby before and i dont think he has the goods but he sure makes the best sausages in Singapore!"
Editors: "Jonny has plyed his trade mainly as a winger, do you see him as an effective centre?"
Rongo: "Basically the roles are almost similar in many aspects...which is to beat the opposite man to the space available. He has played centre before for bedok kings and has performed above himself even when he was played out of position at the premier league level, therefore, he should be able to perform on the weekend."
Editors: "Next key clash, Anilnator against Potato- who ya got??"
Rongo: "Its a story of two first fives with contrasting styles of play. Anil has a pretty decent kicking game and Potato has a good running game. The advantage is that Thiam also has a kicking game in his arsenal and that gives him the advantage in the battle of the first fives. Thiam is a centre by training and this could be crucial as he would be able to give his backs forward impetus with ball in hand."
Editors: "Ok... last question Rongo. The battle for Full back supremacy, Mike Perry vs Lao Ying who ya got?????"
Rongo: "This is a tough call, i have seen both players play and i think that Mikey could come out tops in this contest. Playing in div 1 for SRC gives him the advantage over Lao ying in terms of experience and this could be a telling factor in a game of such magnitude. Although Lao ying has the potential to develop further as a player if he gets the same amount of exposure like Qing. But for the game this sat, i'll have my money on Mikey to come out tops in this battle of the fullbacks"
Editors: "Thanks Rongo. By the way... whos the chick on the phone with you just now during the interview?"
Rongo: "its on a need to know basis......and YOU dont need to know. Thats a seperate interview. kay poh!" (whispering to the phone.."jonny, i call you back")
Editors: "WTF"
