After a entire week of build up and controversies, the battle for fourth place in Division 1 finally kicked off at Farrer Park yesterday. Being in a less favorable position, Bedok Kings took the game to SRC by scoring a converted try early in the first half only after missing 2 crucial penalty kicks. Late in the first half, a series of missed passes and ill discipline by the Kings gave SRC the chance to turn the game around by scoring a couple of breakaway tries putting them in front. It was encouraging that the Kings never gave up the chase even after SRC scored their fourth try, giving them the bonus point to seal their place in the playoffs.
Congrats to Stormy Normy, Emery 'Sub 10' and Ash for making it to the plate semis.
Thiam, "Well, Norm make me eat my words i guess. I never thought they would make it past the on-form Kings. I hope they can now go all the way and win the coverted Plate."
In the Premier league Cup semi-finals, Bedok Kings were up against a new look Wanderers side. The Kings led by a try, early in the game, courtesy of winger Eric Ng. Highlight of the game was the second half where the crowd was awed by the pace the Bedok backline which surprisingly included a 1.68m, 86kg center - Daniel "Potato" Thiam. Potato Thiam managed to make a couple of incredible runs which resulted in 2 tries, but also left crowd in bewilderment. Bedok progressed to the Cup Finals with high level of confidence and of course, the chance to do the double will certainly be a great motivation for the players.
A delirious Thiam after the match about his tries - "when i was running, i could only hear Kings coach danny's voice going 51, 52, 53 (the countdown timing for Bedok's special fitness sprints)... in my head. I just close my eyes and ran as fast as i could." NTU SELECTORS are considering implementing this 'special' fitness sprints into NTU trainings.
The Rong brothers, NTU's Rebel Rong and NTU probable Rongy had plenty of action, making many runs, faking passes and turning over balls for the team. It is obvious that Rongy aka Mr. V (violated) was targetted by the wanderers forward pack. He was being rucked on the head and suffered a few high tackles.
Rongy said, "They tried to open a can of whooping on me, BUT i wouldn't let them."
But what was more worrying for the NTU selectors (YES, they are still around and they were there) was that all three NTU (related) players had a fair share of attention from the medical personnel - Thiam - Chest pain (was viciously rucked by a 150 kg Hooker), Rongy - Cramps (while trying to side-step), Rebel Rong - just out of breath (wats new??). Investigations are ongoing to confirm if Rongy's cramps were similar to that of Mark "Mr Biceps" Lee (who was substituted late in the first half).
Rebel said, "Did you see how i step thru' the wanderers players? I now truely think that I'M DAMN GOOD."
On behalf of the e-rugby team, we would like to congratulate the newly-attached Mr. U and Mrs U. They will be on honeymoon for the next few days. Lets wait for the good news.
