{Sunday, September 03, 2006 . Weekend Review - SRC's ups and downs}

The 2nd round of the NRC league kicks off today. However, for some of the teams and players, the one week of rest and relax has apparently been taken for granted. Stormy was supposed to use the time to rest his injured elbow and Star Daniel, his busted head. However, the 2 clowns of NTU were seen rigourously working on their defensive patterns in the much acclaimed Defence of the Ancient (popularly known as DOTA), when they were supposed to be resting and recuperate. So committed were these 2 fools that shortly before kickoff on Saturday, they were still seen working on their defensive patterns, working up a sweat on their roller chairs clicking away on the mouse. (This new form of fitness drill is still in the testing stage and should not be attempted by kids at home). Doctors confirmed that the pair has caught a new strain of virus from Bryanboy Yik who has suffered from dota-telitis ever since we knew him.

The 2 scrooges then rushed down to the Padang in a cab, only to find that they were supposed to be at Yio Chu Kang stadium. As luck would have it, this little mistake at least allowed them a chance to see history in the making as SRC recorded a first Padang Shield victory over bitter rivals SCC. For the first time in history, the local boys of Padang beat the red haired monsters in a convincing fashion. Little can be said of the match because the editors arrived late.

In the Div 2 game against Wolfpackz, SRC was beaten by a team who displayed teamwork and a passion to win. Emery "Sub 10" Ong was forced to eat humble pie where he was beaten on the outside by Mohd "Sub 9" Ali (actual name unknown, we chose the most common name). The quality of play was good with the 2 teams constantly demonstrating raw speed, inteligence and flair. In the end, it was the referee's desire to help the underdogs, as well as SRC's lack of belief and determination which saw them go down to the new kids on the block by 9 points. A very entertaining game was topped by the dinner afterwards as the editor chomped down a gigantic beef burger oozing with cheese. A fitting end to a fun filled day.
