NTU Rugby has announced earlier this afternoon that the NUS 7’s which will be held in mid October will offer a chance for the young starlets to showcase their talents to the selection panel. This may sound as a good news to rival teams NUS and SMU but players in NTU think otherwise and have bigger plans for this tournament.
When interviewed on why NTU is sending in a youthful team instead of a team of star players, King Thiam said,
“It is time for the season veterans like us to take a step down and give a chance to our new signings to display their abilities to the rest of the rugby fraternity.”
In view of this brave decision by NTU, new signing Tze ‘Catwalker’ was ecstatic.
“Finally, I can show the selection panel the tremendous progress I have made ever since the modeling rehabilitation,” ‘Catwalker’ exclaimed.
Gabriel ‘Stickman’ Loy, however felt that it was not the time for him to play contact rugby at the moment.
“I am still not used to the physical contact involved in 7’s games. At the moment, touch rugby is the way to go for me,” said ‘Stickman’.
The off-season has been a very fruitful one for NTU rugby after the incoming of numerous new signings. They are mostly unknown players who have great potential in rugby and NTU coach Lincoln Tan will be more than happy to bring out the best from these unpolished gems. They will no doubt form the backbone of the team in the upcoming years and make NTU rugby a major force in the coming IVP.
Other than Tze ‘Catwalker’ and Gabriel ‘Stickman’ Loy, other prominent signings include Kevin ‘Salsa King’, Peter ‘Fake Angmoh’ Walker and many others. It is confirmed that the Coach will look closely at the development of these young players and groom them into world-class rugby players.
“This tournament will be a stepping stone for this current team to grow and improve. Despite the inclusion of many young players, I believe that NTU can still do well because I can foresee a huge pool of talent within these players and I hope they clinch this competition,” said Coach Lincoln Tan.
The full squad list is still not available to Rugby-Net at press time but it will be published as soon as the list is confirmed. Rugby-Net wishes the best of luck to the 7’s team and hope that they will bring glory back to the Nanyang family.
