A dastardly hot and dry spell covered all of Singapore as the rugby action continues for the weekend. Over at the Japanese Association homeground, in ulu West Coast, the 'Japanese Occupation' was revisited in the Div 1 match-up between Japanese Association and Bedok Kings. Overall, the game provided much entertainment for the supporters of both side as the 2 teams keenly fought to win the match.
The NTU backline was well-represented in the Kings side with Awesome Kiat and Undroppable Qing donning the red-and-blue stripes against the 'enviously well-paid' Japanese side. Eager to prove that they should be paid better, the 2 NTU regulars made some daring runs against a backline comprising of Adin and Ismail Kadir. Their excellent link-up in the 2nd half was clearly seen when inside-center Qing made a reverse pass to Kiat who was storming through from the blind wing. Unfortunately, nights of water-bombing freshman girls took a serious toll on Qing and the match ended very closely with Jap'n Association winning the match 22-17.
"Is it left over right or right over left? Think, dammit, think!"
The sideline action proved to be as entertaining as the match itself with the likes of King Thiam showing off his handbag to the rugby community and NTU Target Mark 'Biceps' Lee providing free commentary on the game. So caught up with the match was he that, the coaching staff had no choice but to put Mr Biceps on late in the 2nd half as the sight of him jumping up and down at the sidelines was causing mini-earthquakes in the western part of Singapore.
"Lonely? Bored? Horny? Call 1900-BICEP-LUV for a good time"
Over at Yio Chu Kang Stadium, SRC shown itself to be a force to be reckoned with, by beating Lion Reds and Wanderers in the back-to-back Div 2 and Div 1 encounters respectively. Due to lack of manpower, no rugby-net reporters were available to cover the match but we still managed to catch a few words from SRC speedster Emery 'Sub 10' Ong. When asked about his performance, Emery replied, "Not bad man, I managed to score with 2 last night". Obviously, he got the question about his rugby game mixed up with his nocturnal game which can only be described as legendary.
At 'hot as hell' Turf City, Bucks hosted SCC in their Premier encounter, with NTU Superman Li Rencong taking on the mighty reigning champs. The final score could not be confirmed by publishing time but the end result was a win for the home side, Bucks RFC.
With so many NTU players in action over the weekend and only 15 places to fill up, it looks to be a tough task ahead for the NTU selectors who will be sure to keep an even closer eye on the Jalan Bahar Boys.
